Chip pins
These are the pins of the chip on the module, from the chip datasheet. The module's own header may label or expose them differently. Module header labels come from the Compoden listing, not an official module schematic.
| Pin | Function | Voltage | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VCC | Positive input supply voltage (Pin 4) | 4.0-8.0 V (5 V typ); absolute max 8 V | Module IN+ / micro-USB 5 V feed this by role. Listing says do not exceed 5.5 V. | source Pin descriptions (p.2); Electrical Characteristics (p.2); Absolute Maximum Ratings (p.1) |
| GND | Ground (Pin 3) | 0 V | Module IN-. | source Pin descriptions (p.2) |
| BAT | Battery connection pin (Pin 5): connect the battery positive here; provides charge current and regulation voltage | 4.2 V float (4.137-4.263 V, +/-1.5 %); BAT pin current up to 1200 mA absolute max | Module B+. Charge terminates at 1/10 of the programmed current. | source Pin descriptions (p.2); Electrical Characteristics (p.2); Absolute Maximum Ratings (p.1) |
| PROG | Constant charge-current setting and charge-current monitor: set by a resistor RPROG to GND (Pin 2) | IBAT = (VPROG / RPROG) x 1200; 1.2 k = 1000 mA | Board resistor value is a module fact; datasheet gives the table (10 k = 130 mA ... 1.2 k = 1000 mA). | source Pin descriptions (p.2); resistor table (p.3) |
| TEMP | Temperature-sense input for a battery NTC thermistor (Pin 1) | Absolute max -0.3 to 10 V | Charging suspends if TEMP is below 45 % or above 80 % of VIN for more than 0.15 s; ground the pin to disable. | source Pin descriptions (p.2); Absolute Maximum Ratings (p.1) |
| CE | Chip enable input (Pin 8): high = normal operation, low = disable | TTL or CMOS level; absolute max -0.3 to 10 V | source Pin descriptions (p.2); Absolute Maximum Ratings (p.1) | |
| Pin 6 (charge-termination status) | Open-drain charge status output: pulled low when charge terminates | The pin name is not given here. | source Pin descriptions (p.2) | |
| Pin 7 (charging status) | Open-drain charge status output: pulled low while charging | The pin name is not given here. | source Pin descriptions (p.2) |
Common mistakes
- Assuming a +/-1 % float voltage: the TP4056 float voltage is 4.2 V with +/-1.5 % accuracy (4.137-4.263 V) (source)
- Feeding the input below 4.0 V or above 8 V: the input range is 4.0-8.0 V, with 8 V the absolute maximum (source)
- Setting a charge current above 1000 mA: the charge current is programmable up to 1000 mA (source)
What we could not confirm
- Micro-USB board, OUT+/OUT- protection (DW01A) and battery protection are board-level; not in the chip datasheet.
- Listing cut-off tolerance (+/-1 %) and input range (4.5-5.5 V) differ from the datasheet; datasheet values used.
- Charge current formula text is unclear in the datasheet copy; use the resistor table in the PDF.
- Pin rows are the TP4056 chip pins. The module's B+/B-/IN+/IN-/micro-USB terminals (listing) and the DW01A protection IC are board facts; the listing never mentions OUT+/OUT- pads, so where a protected load should connect is unsourced.
- Datasheet text is internally inconsistent about the PROG pin voltage (text says 0.2 V in precharge and 2 V in constant current, the formula says VPROG = 1 V); no PROG voltage is published.
- Listing 'Input 4.5V - 5.5V' is a module claim; chip VCC is 4.0-8.0 V.
