Chip pins
These are the pins of the chip on the module, from the chip datasheet. The module's own header may label or expose them differently. Module header labels come from the Compoden listing, not an official module schematic.
| Pin | Function | Voltage | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VDD | Power supply pin for core logic operation | 1.65-3.3 V; absolute max -0.3 to +4 V | Module-level 3.3-5 V claim is not in the datasheet. | source Section 7 Pin Description (p.13); Table 12-1 DC Characteristics (p.48) |
| VCC | Power supply for panel driving voltage (most positive supply) | 7-15 V; absolute max 16 V | Normally generated on the module; this is NOT the module's VCC pin. | source Section 7 Pin Description (p.13); Table 11-1 (p.47); Table 12-1 (p.48) |
| VSS | Ground | 0 V | source Section 7 Pin Description (p.13) | |
| RES# | Reset input, active LOW | Input absolute max VSS - 0.3 V to VDD + 0.3 V (Table 11-1, p.47) | Keep HIGH (connect to VDD) during normal operation. | source Section 7 Pin Description (p.13) |
| D/C# | Data/command control; in I2C mode this pin acts as SA0 (slave address select) | Input absolute max VSS - 0.3 V to VDD + 0.3 V (Table 11-1, p.47) | SA0 low/high selects 0111100 or 0111101 (7-bit, binary). | source Section 7 Pin Description (p.13); I2C interface description |
| D0 | Serial clock input; in I2C mode D0 is SCL | Input absolute max VSS - 0.3 V to VDD + 0.3 V (Table 11-1, p.47) | Datasheet: logic input only to VDD + 0.3 V. | source Section 7 Pin Description (p.13) |
| D1 and D2 | I2C mode: D2 and D1 tied together serve as SDA out / SDA in | Input absolute max VSS - 0.3 V to VDD + 0.3 V (Table 11-1, p.47) | Datasheet: tie D2 and D1 together in I2C mode. | source Section 7 Pin Description (p.13) |
Common mistakes
- Putting 5 V on VDD: the logic supply range is 1.65-3.3 V; the 7-15 V VCC is the panel drive supply (source)
- Using the wrong I2C address: SA0 selects 0111100 or 0111101, and in I2C mode the D/C pin acts as SA0 (source)
- Assuming the 3.3-5 V module range applies to the bare chip: the datasheet gives only the chip ratings above (source)
What we could not confirm
- Module-level 3.3-5 V supply and onboard regulator: not in datasheet.
- Logic input thresholds (VIH/VIL) are unclear in the datasheet copy; check the PDF.
- Advance Information revision; confirm against the final Solomon Systech release if one exists.
- Chip datasheet only; the 128x64 panel and board are not covered.
- Logic input thresholds (VIH/VIL) are unclear in the datasheet copy; only the absolute maximum on inputs (VDD + 0.3 V, VDD at most 3.3 V) is given. Datasheet states no 5 V tolerance.
- Module header (VCC, GND, SDA, SCL) is the 4-pin listing wording; the board regulator and any I2C pull-ups are not documented by an official source.
