GP2Y1010AU0F dust sensor: specs and pinout
A Sharp optical dust sensor: an infrared LED and a phototransistor sit diagonally and the unit reports reflected light from particles in the air as an analog voltage. Sharp's sheet describes dust detection, not PM2.5 mass measurement.

Build with it
Project ideas for the GP2Y1010AU0F dust sensor. Each link opens Soldr with the prompt filled in; Soldr assigns the pins, checks power and shows how to wire every part.
- Indoor dust level readout: The Uno supplies the required 5 V and its ADC reads the output. Wire Sharp's input circuit: the V-LED pin through a 150 ohm resistor with a 220 uF capacitor to ground, and pulse the LED pin from a digital pin (0.32 ms pulse every 10 ms), reading the output 0.28 ms after the pulse starts. A relative readout for learning, not a calibrated or safety instrument.
- Dust level LED bar: Map the analog reading to three LED steps; each LED needs its own series resistor from the resistor pack. Use Sharp's input circuit (150 ohm resistor and 220 uF capacitor on V-LED) and pulse the LED pin from a digital pin as the sheet shows. A relative display, not an alarm.
- Dust logger on an ESP32 with a divider: Power the sensor from 5 V and divide its output down with two resistors from the pack so it stays under 3.3 V at the ESP32 ADC pin. Add Sharp's 150 ohm resistor and 220 uF capacitor on V-LED and pulse the LED pin from a digital pin (0.32 ms every 10 ms). Learning project.
Common mistakes
- Run it from 5 V +/- 0.5 V (source: link, p.4). The output can reach at least 3.4 V (p.4) and the reference curve levels off near 3.7 V (Fig. 3, p.5, reference only), so a 3.3 V ADC pin needs a divider.
- The LED must be pulsed, not held on: 10 ms cycle, 0.32 ms pulse, sample the output 0.28 ms after the pulse starts (source: link, p.4 and Fig. 2 p.5).
- The V-LED pin is fed through a 150 ohm resistor with a 220 uF capacitor to ground in Sharp's input circuit (source: link, Fig. 1 p.5); leaving them out changes the pulse current.
Not covered by the official source
- The product name calls it a PM2.5 and smoke detector; Sharp's sheet gives sensitivity only as dust density of cigarette smoke and does not claim PM2.5 or a smoke-alarm function.
- Wire colours of any cable included are not documented.
- The resistor pack's ten values are not listed; a 150 ohm resistor can be made from 220 ohm and 470 ohm resistors in parallel if the pack has no 150 ohm value, and the capacitor pack's 220 uF value should be checked before use.
