|---|---|---|
| Supply | VDD 1.7-2.0 V (core); VLED+ 3.1-5.0 V (LEDs). Chip ratings only; the module's 3.3 V / 5 V board claim is not in the datasheet. | source Electrical Characteristics, Power Supply (p.2) |

Chip pins
These are the pins of the chip on the module, from the chip datasheet. The module's own header may label or expose them differently. Module header labels come from the Compoden listing, not an official module schematic.
| Pin | Function | Voltage | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VDD | Analog power supply input (core) | 1.7-2.0 V (1.8 V typ); absolute max -0.3 to +2.2 V | Datasheet says use a bypass capacitor to GND. The module's 3.3 V / 5 V VIN claim is a board feature not in the datasheet; 5 V on the bare VDD pin exceeds the 2.2 V absolute maximum. | source Pin Description (p.8); Absolute Maximum Ratings |
| VLED+ | LED power supply (anode connection), two pins | 3.1-5.0 V (3.3 V typ); absolute max -0.3 to +6.0 V (to PGND) | Use a bypass capacitor to PGND. | source Pin Description (p.8); Absolute Maximum Ratings |
| GND | Analog ground | 0 V | GND to PGND absolute max is -0.3 to +0.3 V. | source Pin Description (p.8); Absolute Maximum Ratings |
| PGND | Power ground of the LED driver blocks | 0 V | source Pin Description (p.8) | |
| SDA | I2C data, bidirectional (open-drain) | VIH min 0.7 x VDD, VIL max 0.3 x VDD (VDD = 2 V); absolute max -0.3 to +6.0 V (All Other Pins) | The datasheet gives an absolute maximum only; it does not state that the pin is 5 V tolerant in operation. | source Pin Description (p.8); Digital Input Characteristics: SCL, SDA; Absolute Maximum Ratings |
| SCL | I2C clock input | VIH min 0.7 x VDD, VIL max 0.3 x VDD (VDD = 2 V); absolute max -0.3 to +6.0 V (All Other Pins) | Same note as SDA. | source Pin Description (p.8); Digital Input Characteristics: SCL, SDA; Absolute Maximum Ratings |
| INT | Active-low interrupt (open-drain) | Absolute max -0.3 to +6.0 V (All Other Pins) | Datasheet: connect to an external voltage with a pullup resistor. | source Pin Description (p.8); Absolute Maximum Ratings |
Common mistakes
- Putting 3.3 V or 5 V on VDD: the VDD absolute maximum is 2.2 V; the 3.1-5.0 V rail is for the LED supply VLED+ only (source)
- Powering the LED supply before the core: the datasheet recommends bringing up VDD first, then the LED supplies (source)
- Reading the sensor as a finished SpO2 meter: the datasheet covers the optical front end and gives no heart-rate or SpO2 measurement range or accuracy (source)
What we could not confirm
- Heart-rate range (30-220 bpm) and SpO2 range (70-100 %) from the listing are not in the datasheet and are not used.
- Measurement accuracy: not in datasheet.
- Module-level supply (3.3 V or 5 V board with onboard regulator): not in datasheet; only chip ratings given.
- Module operating current and GND pin voltage: not in datasheet.
- Values are from the copy hosted by a hosted copy; the official analog.com document is not covered.
- Module header: listing names only VIN, GND, SDA, SCL. Whether INT and PGND are brought out on the module is not given by any source.
- Listing says use a logic level converter on 5 V Arduino boards; datasheet gives only the 6.0 V absolute maximum on SDA/SCL/INT and no 5 V operating tolerance, so the level converter advice stands.
