SS360NT Hall effect sensor: specs and pinout
A high-sensitivity latching digital Hall-effect sensor IC in a SOT-23 surface-mount package. It switches on when a North pole is applied and stays latched until the opposite (South) pole is applied. This is a bare SMD chip, not a breakout module.

Pinout
This is the bare SOT-23 chip, so the Honeywell pin drawing applies directly. It has no breakout board; it needs SMD soldering.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vcc (+) | 3.0-24.0 V | Supply | source Figure 5 SOT-23 drawing (p.4) |
| 2 | Output | sinks up to 20 mA | Needs a pull-up; output goes low when a North pole above Bop is applied | source Figure 5 (p.4); Figure 1 (p.3) |

Build with it
Project ideas for the SS360NT Hall effect sensor. Each link opens Soldr with the prompt filled in; Soldr assigns the pins, checks power and shows how to wire every part.
- Magnet rotation counter: Powered from the Uno 5 V (inside 3-24 V), with the Uno input pull-up on the sinking output. A latching sensor needs alternating poles on the rotor, so mount a North and a South magnet. This is for builders who can solder a SOT-23 part.
- Magnetic latch indicator: The output latches on a North pole and releases on a South pole, which makes a simple two-state switch. Learning project, not a security product. This is for builders who can solder a SOT-23 part. The output is current-sinking, so enable INPUT_PULLUP (or add an external pull-up).
- Magnet-triggered temperature display: A North pole latches the sensor and tells the Uno to show the reading; the DS18B20 sends its value over one wire. Everything runs from the Uno 5 V. This is for builders who can solder a SOT-23 part. The output is current-sinking, so enable INPUT_PULLUP (or add an external pull-up). The DS18B20 data line needs a 4.7 k pull-up to its supply; the resistor pack's values are not listed, so pick the 4.7 k part (yellow, violet, red bands) and confirm it with a multimeter.
Common mistakes
- Expecting the output to switch off when the magnet is removed: this is a latching sensor that responds to alternating North and South poles, so it holds its state until the opposite pole arrives (source: link, Description p.1)
- Wiring the output without a pull-up: the output is current-sinking (20 mA max), so it pulls low on its own and needs a pull-up resistor or an input pull-up to read a high level (source: link, Figure 1 p.3 and Table 1 p.2)
- Assuming the start-up state is defined: if powered up with a field between Brp and Bop the output can be either ON or OFF; Honeywell recommends allowing 10 us after the supply reaches 5 V for the output to stabilise (source: link, Notice under Table 1 p.2)
Not covered by the official source
- The Honeywell sheet covers the SS360NT, SS360ST, SS360ST-10K and SS460S family; every value above is from the SS360NT/SS360ST row group.
- Figure 1 labels the output stage 'current sinking'; the sheet does not use the words 'open collector'.
- Check that the stocked reel part marking is SS360NT (the listing title also says Compoden).
