## Power

| | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Supply | Controller: VDD1 1.65-3.5 V (logic), VDD2 3.0-4.2 V (charge pump). The module supply range is not covered by an official document. | source Features (p.1); DC Characteristics (p.35) |

## Chip pins
These are the pins of the chip on the module, from the chip datasheet. The module's own header may label or expose them differently.

These are SH1106 chip pads. The module board (header labels, regulator, pull-ups, interface jumpers) is not covered by an official document.

| Pin | Function | Voltage | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VDD1 | Logic power supply input | 1.65-3.5 V | Chip pad; the module header may not expose it separately. | source Pad Description (p.3) |
| VDD2 | Power supply for the charge pump circuit | 3.0-4.2 V | Chip pad. | source Pad Description (p.3) |
| RES | Reset input; settings are initialized when low | Input max VDD1 + 0.3 V | | source System Bus Connection pads (p.4) |
| CS | Chip select input, active when low | Input max VDD1 + 0.3 V | | source System Bus Connection pads (p.4) |
| A0 | Data/command select: high = display data, low = command; in I2C mode this pad serves as SA0 | Input max VDD1 + 0.3 V | Selects the I2C address in I2C mode. | source System Bus Connection pads (p.4) |
| D0 - D7 (SCL) (SI/SDA) | Parallel data bus; in serial modes D0 is SCL and D1 is SI/SDA | Input max VDD1 + 0.3 V | Unused data pads: connect to VDD1 or VSS or leave open (interface notes). | source System Bus Connection pads (p.4); interface tables (p.7-9) |
| IM0, IM1, IM2 | Interface mode select (8080, 6800, 4-wire SPI, 3-wire SPI, I2C) | | Set on the module board. | source System Bus Connection pads (p.4) |

## Build with it
Project ideas for the SH1106 OLED 1.3 inch. Each link opens Soldr with the prompt filled in; Soldr assigns the pins, checks power and shows how to wire every part.

- [Pico weather display](https://app.soldr.ai/?prompt=I%20want%20to%20build%20a%20small%20weather%20display%20with%20a%20Raspberry%20Pi%20Pico%2C%20a%20BMP280%20sensor%20and%20a%201.3%20inch%20I2C%20OLED%20display): Both the Pico and the display run on 3.3 V logic; they share one I2C bus at different addresses.
- [Desk clock](https://app.soldr.ai/?prompt=I%20want%20to%20build%20a%20desk%20clock%20with%20an%20ESP32%2C%20a%20DS3231%20real-time%20clock%20module%20and%20a%201.3%20inch%20I2C%20OLED%20display): The clock module keeps time when the ESP32 is off; the display only shows it.
- [Rotary-knob menu](https://app.soldr.ai/?prompt=I%20want%20to%20build%20a%20small%20settings%20menu%20with%20a%20Raspberry%20Pi%20Pico%2C%20a%20rotary%20encoder%20and%20a%201.3%20inch%20I2C%20OLED%20display): The display draws the menu while the encoder scrolls and selects.

## Common mistakes

- Feeding 5 V logic to the bare controller: VDD1 is 1.65-3.5 V (absolute maximum 3.6 V) and inputs may not exceed VDD1 + 0.3 V; what the module board adds (regulator, level shifting) is not documented, so power it from 3.3 V unless the module maker states otherwise ([source](https://www.pololu.com/file/0J1813/SH1106.pdf))
- Using the wrong I2C address: the controller uses 0111100 or 0111101 depending on SA0, so scan the bus if the display stays blank ([source](https://www.pololu.com/file/0J1813/SH1106.pdf))
- Treating it as a 128-column controller: the SH1106 display RAM is 132 x 64 bits, so a 128-pixel-wide panel may need a column offset; the offset for this module is not in the datasheet ([source](https://www.pololu.com/file/0J1813/SH1106.pdf))

## Not covered by the official source

- Module-level supply range, regulator and I2C pull-ups: not in any official document.
- No operating or sleep current is quoted because the datasheet's current units are unclear (mA vs uA).
- Column offset for a 128-pixel panel on the 132-column RAM is not given in the datasheet.
- Datasheet V2.3, copy hosted on a mirror.
