The NoIR variant of Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2: an 8-megapixel CSI-2 camera board with adjustable focus on a 15-pin ribbon connector and no infrared filter, so it captures both visible and infrared light. Raspberry Pi's documentation says Camera Module 2 boards made before November 2026 use the Sony IMX219 sensor and later ones use the Sony IMX355.

## Pinout

Rows are the host-side 15-pin camera connector table in the Raspberry Pi documentation (direction is from the Raspberry Pi board's point of view). Raspberry Pi does not publish a separate pin table or schematic for this NoIR board; the ribbon passes these signals through.

## Build with it
Project ideas for the Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2 NoIR. Each link opens Soldr with the prompt filled in; Soldr assigns the pins, checks power and shows how to wire every part.

Shut the Pi down and disconnect power before fitting the ribbon.

The PIR module's output level is not documented here, so check that it is 3.3 V before wiring it to a Pi pin. If people can be in view, tell them the camera is there and get consent. Power the PIR from the supply its own page lists.

## Common mistakes

- Plugging the 15-pin ribbon straight into a Raspberry Pi 5 or Zero: those boards use a 22-pin camera connector, so a 15-to-22-pin adapter cable is needed (source: [link](https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/accessories/camera.html), Pinout information).
- Assuming the sensor is always the IMX219: Camera Module 2 boards made from November 2026 use the IMX355, and Raspberry Pi advises a full OS update if a new board misbehaves (source: [link](https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/accessories/camera.html), Camera Module 2 > Sensor change).
- Expecting a NoIR board to see in the dark by itself: it has no infrared filter and captures visible and infrared light, so it will not see in the dark without infrared light (source: [link](https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/accessories/camera.html), Camera Module 2 > Variants).

## Not covered by the official source

- No product brief PDF or schematic for the Camera Module 2 NoIR is published on Raspberry Pi's datasheet site, so specs come from the documentation hardware table.
- No current-draw figure is published in the Raspberry Pi documents, so power current is not given.
- The documentation's sensor-change text covers Camera Module 2 in general; it does not say separately which sensor a NoIR board has.
- Infrared sensitivity figures for the NoIR variant are not published.
