## Chip pins

These are the pins of the chip on the module, from the chip datasheet. The module's own header may label or expose them differently. Module header labels (VCC, GND, SDA, SCL…) come from the Compoden listing, not an official module schematic.

| Pin | Function | Voltage | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GND (pin 1) | Ground | | | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |
| CSB (pin 2) | Chip select (SPI); connect to VDDIO for I2C | Absolute maximum VDDIO + 0.3 V; VDDIO max 3.6 V; not 5 V tolerant | | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |
| SDI (pin 3) | Serial data input: SDA in I2C, SDI in 4-wire SPI, SDI/SDO in 3-wire SPI | Absolute maximum VDDIO + 0.3 V; VDDIO max 3.6 V; not 5 V tolerant | | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |
| SCK (pin 4) | Serial clock input: SCL in I2C | Absolute maximum VDDIO + 0.3 V; VDDIO max 3.6 V; not 5 V tolerant | | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |
| SDO (pin 5) | Serial data output (SPI); in I2C selects the address: GND = 0x76, VDDIO = 0x77 | Absolute maximum VDDIO + 0.3 V; VDDIO max 3.6 V; not 5 V tolerant | Must not be left floating in I2C mode | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |
| VDDIO (pin 6) | Digital interface supply | 1.2 V to 3.6 V | Absolute maximum 4.25 V at any supply pin | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |
| GND (pin 7) | Ground | | | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |
| VDD (pin 8) | Analog supply | 1.71 V to 3.6 V | Absolute maximum 4.25 V at any supply pin | source Pin-out and connection diagram, pin table (datasheet section 5.1 area) |

## Common mistakes

- Leaving SDO floating: SDO sets the I2C address (0x76 or 0x77) and the datasheet says it cannot be left floating ([source](https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/media/boschsensortec/downloads/datasheets/bst-bmp280-ds001.pdf))
- Holding SDI, SDO, SCK or CSB high while VDDIO is switched off: this can permanently damage the device through ESD diode current ([source](https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/media/boschsensortec/downloads/datasheets/bst-bmp280-ds001.pdf))
- Supplying VDD or VDDIO above 3.6 V: 3.6 V is the maximum ([source](https://www.bosch-sensortec.com/media/boschsensortec/downloads/datasheets/bst-bmp280-ds001.pdf))

## What we could not confirm

- Front-page accuracy text is unclear in the datasheet copy. Accuracy values are taken from the accuracy table.
- Board supply and logic levels are not stated in the datasheet. The listing's 3.3 V to 5 V module range is not used.
- Full-accuracy temperature range and other current modes are not given on this page.
- Pin rows are the BMP280 chip's 8 pins. The listing's module range '3.3V (5V if the module supports it)' is module-level and not from Bosch; the chip supplies max out at 3.6 V (4.25 V absolute maximum) and interface pins at VDDIO + 0.3 V.
- The listing labels SDO as 'SPI data out (SPI mode only)'; per the datasheet SDO also sets the I2C address (0x76 / 0x77).
