## Chip pins

These are the pins of the chip on the module, from the chip datasheet. The module's own header may label or expose them differently. Module header labels (VCC, GND, SDA, SCL…) come from the Compoden listing, not an official module schematic.

| Pin | Function | Voltage | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VDD5V (pin 1) | Positive voltage supply in 5 V mode (requires 100 nF decoupling capacitor) | 4.5 V to 5.5 V (5 V mode); absolute maximum 6.1 V | In 3.3 V mode this pin is tied to VDD3V3 | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |
| VDD3V3 (pin 2) | Positive voltage supply in 3.3 V mode (requires an external 1 uF decoupling capacitor in 5 V mode) | 3.0 V to 3.6 V (3.3 V mode); absolute maximum 4.0 V | Supply between 3.6 V and 4.5 V is outside both modes | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |
| OUT (pin 3) | Analog / PWM output | Absolute maximum VDD + 0.3 V, where VDD is the voltage at the VDD5V pin (so 3.3 V logic only in 3.3 V mode) | | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |
| GND (pin 4) | Ground | | | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |
| PGO (pin 5) | Program option input (internal pull-up; connected to GND = Programming Option B) | Absolute maximum VDD + 0.3 V, where VDD is the voltage at the VDD5V pin (so 3.3 V logic only in 3.3 V mode) | | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |
| SDA (pin 6) | I2C data (consider external pull-up) | Absolute maximum VDD + 0.3 V, where VDD is the voltage at the VDD5V pin (so 3.3 V logic only in 3.3 V mode) | | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |
| SCL (pin 7) | I2C clock (consider external pull-up) | Absolute maximum VDD + 0.3 V, where VDD is the voltage at the VDD5V pin (so 3.3 V logic only in 3.3 V mode) | | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |
| DIR (pin 8) | Direction polarity (GND = values increase clockwise, VDD = values increase counterclockwise) | Absolute maximum VDD + 0.3 V, where VDD is the voltage at the VDD5V pin (so 3.3 V logic only in 3.3 V mode) | | source Pin Assignment / Pin Description table (page 5) |

## Common mistakes

- Supplying between the two operating modes: 3.6 V to 4.5 V is outside both the 3.0 V to 3.6 V and 4.5 V to 5.5 V ranges ([source](https://www.infineon.com/assets/row/public/documents/24/49/infineon-as5600-datasheet-en.pdf))
- Exceeding 4.0 V on VDD3V3: 4.0 V is the absolute maximum ([source](https://www.infineon.com/assets/row/public/documents/24/49/infineon-as5600-datasheet-en.pdf))
- Clocking SCL above 1.0 MHz: the maximum SCL frequency is 1.0 MHz ([source](https://www.infineon.com/assets/row/public/documents/24/49/infineon-as5600-datasheet-en.pdf))

## What we could not confirm

- Legacy ams-OSRAM document hosted by Infineon. It is not checked against a current Infineon revision.
- Module pins DIR, OUT and PGO are not in the pinout table.
- Angle output accuracy is not given on this page.
- Pin rows are the AS5600 chip's 8 pins (Infineon-hosted datasheet). The listing's module header shows only VCC, GND, SDA, SCL; the chip also has DIR, OUT and PGO. Which chip supply pin (VDD5V or VDD3V3) the module's VCC feeds, and whether the module has a regulator, is not from an official source, so the 'VCC 3.3V or 5V' listing claim is not repeated.
