## Pinout
We don't publish a pin table for this part: no official source we could verify gives one. Check the labels printed on your module, and see the notes below.

The brief gives no pin table: the HAT connects to the Raspberry Pi's two 0.1-inch headers (40 + 4 pins), the four PoE pins carrying the input power.

## Build with it
Project ideas for the Raspberry Pi PoE+ HAT (3B+ / 4). Each link opens Soldr with the prompt filled in; Soldr assigns the pins, checks power and shows how to wire every part.

- [Ethernet-powered camera](https://app.soldr.ai/?prompt=I%20want%20to%20build%20an%20Ethernet-powered%20network%20camera%20with%20a%20Raspberry%20Pi%204%2C%20a%20PoE%2B%20HAT%20and%20a%20Raspberry%20Pi%20Camera%20Module%202): Requires an 802.3at PoE+ switch or injector that you already own (not sold here). One Ethernet cable carries data and power from that PoE+ source; the camera uses the Pi's camera connector. Tell people who may be filmed that the camera is there. Learning project.
- [Night-view Ethernet camera](https://app.soldr.ai/?prompt=I%20want%20to%20build%20an%20Ethernet-powered%20night-view%20camera%20with%20a%20Raspberry%20Pi%204%2C%20a%20PoE%2B%20HAT%20and%20an%20OV5647%20camera): Requires an 802.3at PoE+ switch or injector that you already own (not sold here). Same single-cable power as above with an infrared-capable camera board; the camera module itself is not documented here. Tell people who may be filmed that the camera is there.
- [Always-on network utility box](https://app.soldr.ai/?prompt=I%20want%20to%20build%20an%20always-on%20network%20utility%20box%20that%20runs%20a%20small%20web%20server%20and%20file%20share%20on%20a%20Raspberry%20Pi%204%20with%20a%20PoE%2B%20HAT): Requires an 802.3at PoE+ switch or injector that you already own (not sold here). Powered over Ethernet from your PoE+ source, the HAT supplies 5 V at 4 A to the Raspberry Pi, so no separate power supply is needed as long as that PoE+ equipment is on the network.

## Common mistakes

- Powering the Raspberry Pi any other way while the HAT is fitted: the brief says it should only be powered through the Ethernet cable (source: [link](https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/poe/poe-plus-hat-product-brief.pdf), p.5 Warnings)
- Expecting it to work on a plain Ethernet socket: it needs power-sourcing equipment (a PoE switch or injector) on the network (source: [link](https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/poe/poe-plus-hat-product-brief.pdf), p.2 Overview)
- Handling the HAT while powered: the brief warns of injury from potentially high voltages; also pull it off the pins evenly, not one end first (source: [link](https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/poe/poe-plus-hat-product-brief.pdf), p.4-5)

## Not covered by the official source

- The brief gives no pin table and no fan connector details.
- The brief does not say whether Raspberry Pi 5 is supported.
- The brief names the Raspberry Pi 3B+ and Raspberry Pi 4 as the supported boards; a plain Raspberry Pi 3B has no PoE header.
