# Connect Soldr to your AI coding tool

> Add the Soldr MCP server to Claude Code, Codex, VS Code or Cursor: search Compoden parts with prices and stock, and start a Soldr build from your editor.

[Soldr](https://soldr.ai/) / Connect

Soldr runs an MCP server at https://soldr.ai/mcp. Add it to your AI coding tool and the tool can search Compoden's parts with prices and stock, read a part's specs, and hand you a link that opens your build idea in Soldr, ready to run.

The server address is `https://soldr.ai/mcp`. It is public and read-only: no account, no API key, and it never places an order.

## Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

```
claude mcp add --transport http soldr https://soldr.ai/mcp
```
Then start Claude Code and ask about a part. `/mcp` lists the connected servers.

## Codex (CLI)

Add it from the terminal:

```
codex mcp add soldr --url https://soldr.ai/mcp
```
or add this to `~/.codex/config.toml` (or `.codex/config.toml` in a trusted project):

```
[mcp_servers.soldr]
url = "https://soldr.ai/mcp"
```

## VS Code

Create `.vscode/mcp.json` in your workspace (or add it to your user MCP configuration):

```
{
"servers": {
"soldr": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://soldr.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
```
Then open chat in agent mode and pick the Soldr tools.

## Cursor

Add this to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (this project):

```
{
"mcpServers": {
"soldr": {
"url": "https://soldr.ai/mcp"
}
}
}
```

## Tools

| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| search_parts | Search the Compoden catalogue: boards, sensors, displays, motors, power. Returns the name, price in INR, stock, key specs and the product link. |
| get_part | One part by its handle: price, stock, key specs, the datasheet link and a one-line description. |
| start_build | Turns a build idea into a link that opens Soldr with the idea filled in. Soldr picks the parts in stock, wires them, writes and compile-checks the code. |

## Things to ask

- Find an ESP32 board in stock on Compoden and tell me its price.

- Is the DHT22 in stock, and what voltage does it run on?

- Which 0.96 inch OLED displays are in stock, and which is cheapest?

- I want to build a plant watering monitor: start a Soldr build for it.

A Soldr link opens the build in your browser: Soldr picks the parts, shows how to wire them, writes the code, compiles it and flashes your board from Chrome or Edge, with no IDE to install. Sign in and get 100 credits free.

## Questions

### Does connecting Soldr cost anything?

The parts tools do not use credits. Building in Soldr does: generated code and compiles cost credits. Sign in and get 100 credits free.

### Which parts can it see?

The Compoden catalogue, with prices in rupees and whether each part is in stock.

### Does it need an account or an API key?

No. The server is public and read-only; it never places an order.

### Is there a limit?

Yes, calls are rate-limited per IP address (60 an hour) so the catalogue cannot be scraped. Normal use stays well inside it.
